Detailed Introduction

Fisherbrand™ accumet™ XL200 Benchtop pH / mV / Conductivity Meter — Product Introduction

The Fisherbrand™ accumet™ XL200 is a research-grade, multi-parameter benchtop meter manufactured by Thermo Fisher Scientific (Fisher Scientific brand). Designed for demanding analytical environments, it simultaneously measures pH, ORP/mV, conductivity, total dissolved solids (TDS), salinity, resistivity, and temperature with high precision and GLP/GMP-compliant data management. The XL200 is widely adopted in pharmaceutical quality control, biopharmaceutical process water monitoring, environmental testing laboratories, food & beverage QA, chemical R&D, and academic research settings where reliable electrochemical measurement and audit-ready documentation are required.

Key Design & User Interface

The XL200 features a large, high-resolution color LCD touchscreen with wide viewing angles and glass-on-glass capacitive sensitivity, allowing intuitive menu navigation even when wearing gloves. Up to three measurement parameters can be displayed simultaneously—for example, pH + temperature, or conductivity + resistivity + temperature—with real-time stability indicators, alarm status, and context-sensitive help screens. The interface supports multiple languages including English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Chinese. A built-in self-diagnostic routine verifies system integrity at startup.

The instrument housing is compact (24.6 × 17.3 × 9.9 cm) and can be either bench-mounted or wall-mounted using an optional kit to free up workspace. An electrode arm and stand are included in the standard kit for secure probe positioning during measurement or calibration.

Measurement Modes & Performance

pH Mode: The XL200 measures pH from –2.000 to +20.000 with 0.001 pH resolution and ±0.002 pH accuracy. It supports 1- to 6-point calibration using six preset buffer sets (USA, NIST, DIN, or custom user-defined buffers) with Automatic Buffer Recognition (ABR). Temperature compensation is automatic via an external ATC probe or manual entry.

mV / ORP Mode: Millivolt readings range from ±2000.0 mV with 0.1 mV resolution and ±0.2 mV accuracy, suitable for redox potential (ORP) determination and ion-selective electrode (ISE) measurements. Relative mV mode is also supported, along with mV offset adjustment up to ±150 mV.

Conductivity / Resistivity / TDS / Salinity Mode: Conductivity is measurable from 0.00 µS/cm to 500.0 mS/cm with auto-ranging and ±1 % full-scale accuracy. Resistivity (2.000 Ω to 20.0 MΩ), TDS (0.00 ppm to 500 ppt, adjustable coefficient 0.01–1.00), and salinity (0 to 80.0 ppt, practical salinity scale) are calculated automatically. Four-point automatic or five-point manual conductivity calibration is supported, with user-selectable cell constants from 0.01 to 10.00 cm⁻¹.

Temperature: Measured via an integrated ATC probe input (mini-phone jack), range –5.0 °C to +105.0 °C, resolution 0.1 °C, accuracy ±0.2 °C.

Calibration, Data Management & Connectivity

Each of up to ten password-protected user IDs stores unique calibration records, method settings, and measurement preferences. Per user ID, the XL200 logs 2,000 data points with date/time stamp. Data can be exported or printed through:

  • RS-232 serial port (for printers or PCs)

  • USB-A (for flash drive, keyboard, or mouse)

  • Mini-B USB (for PC connection and software)

  • RJ45 Ethernet (for LAN/LIMS integration, network printing, or remote access)

The instrument supports bidirectional communication with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and third-party data software, facilitating 21 CFR Part 11–aligned workflows when used with validated procedures.

An optional Fisherbrand accumet Stirring Probe (Cat. No. 13-620-BSP) connects directly to either of two stirrer ports on the rear panel, providing five speed settings—eliminating the need for a separate magnetic stir plate during pH calibration or sample mixing.

Electrode Inputs & Kit Contents

The XL200 accepts:

  • BNC connector for pH, ORP, or ISE electrodes

  • Mini-phone jack for ATC temperature probes

  • 8-pin DIN connector for conductivity/TDS/salinity/temperature combination probes

  • Ground terminal for shielded electrode cables

A typical XL200 pH/Conductivity Kit (Cat. Nos. 13636XL200 / 13636XL200A) includes:

  • accumet XL200 benchtop meter

  • TRIS-compatible double-junction refillable glass-body pH electrode (accuTupH®, Cat. 13-620-183A)

  • ATC temperature probe (Cat. 13-620-19)

  • 2-cell conductivity/temperature probe (Cat. 13-620-100)

  • Electrode stand and arm

  • RS-232 and USB cables

  • 100–240 V AC universal power supply

  • NIST-traceable certificate (–CERT models)

NIST-traceable calibration models include documentation of meter accuracy at five test points across the pH range and corresponding mV range, supporting ISO, FDA, USDA, and EPA quality assurance programs.
