Marlborough, MA – ASMS 2025 – SCIEX, a global leader in life science analytical technologies and a Danaher operating company, today announced the launch of the ZenoTOF 8600 System, marking a major advancement in high-resolution accurate mass spectrometry. Introduced at the 73rd American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) Annual Conference, the new platform sets a new benchmark for sensitivity, quantitation performance, and structural elucidation in complex biological analysis.
The ZenoTOF 8600 System delivers up to 10x higher sensitivity compared to the previous-generation ZenoTOF 7600+ system, enabling scientists to detect and quantify significantly more low-abundance analytes in challenging biological matrices. This leap in performance empowers researchers across proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, and translational science to generate deeper insights with higher confidence and throughput than ever before.
At the core of the ZenoTOF 8600 System is a series of integrated innovations designed to dramatically improve ion transmission efficiency and detection sensitivity. By combining SCIEX’s proven Zeno trap technology with a newly engineered ion path architecture, the system achieves unprecedented performance gains in both qualitative and quantitative workflows.
Key hardware innovations include the OptiFlow Pro ion source, DJet ion guide, and QJet ion guide, all working in concert to maximize ion generation, focusing, and transmission into the mass analyzer. When combined with the Zeno trap, these enhancements result in up to 10-fold sensitivity improvement, enabling robust detection of trace-level compounds previously inaccessible in complex samples.
In addition, the system incorporates a newly designed optical detector, which enables operation at higher ion currents while maintaining signal stability and linear dynamic range. This advancement supports improved quantitation accuracy across a broad range of concentrations, making the system highly suitable for large-scale omics studies and biomarker discovery applications.
Beyond sensitivity improvements, the ZenoTOF 8600 System introduces Mass Guard technology, first implemented in SCIEX’s latest triple quadrupole platforms. This innovation protects critical ion optics from contamination, significantly improving instrument robustness and uptime in demanding laboratory environments.
By reducing maintenance frequency and enhancing long-term system stability, Mass Guard technology ensures that laboratories can maintain continuous operation even under high sample throughput conditions. This is particularly important for clinical research, pharmaceutical development, and large cohort studies where instrument downtime directly impacts productivity and project timelines.
The ZenoTOF 8600 System also features ZT Scan DIA 2.0, an advanced data-independent acquisition (DIA) approach that significantly expands mass range coverage and identification depth. This next-generation workflow enables researchers to quantify thousands of species from a single injection, while improving structural characterization across multiple omics layers.
ZT Scan DIA 2.0 is designed to unlock previously inaccessible analytical space, allowing scientists to detect subtle biological changes in low-abundance molecules. This capability is particularly valuable in areas such as precision medicine, biomarker validation, and single-cell proteomics.
Recent technical evaluations demonstrate that the system can identify over 4,000 protein groups from sub-nanogram sample inputs, with a large proportion of proteins quantified with high precision and low coefficient of variation. These capabilities underscore the system’s potential to transform ultra-low input biological research.
To fully support the data complexity generated by the ZenoTOF 8600 System, SCIEX has introduced SCIEX OS 4.0, a next-generation software platform designed to streamline acquisition, processing, and interpretation workflows.
SCIEX OS 4.0 enhances automation, improves processing speed, and delivers a more intuitive user experience for multi-omics applications. The software also integrates seamlessly with leading third-party bioinformatics tools, including MS-DIAL for metabolomics and lipidomics, and PEAKS Studio for proteomics research.
These collaborations strengthen the SCIEX ecosystem by enabling more flexible, scalable, and interoperable data analysis workflows. Researchers benefit from improved spectral deconvolution, enhanced library matching, and more accurate peptide and metabolite identification across complex datasets.
The launch of the ZenoTOF 8600 System reflects SCIEX’s continued commitment to advancing multi-omics science and enabling deeper biological understanding through innovation in mass spectrometry.
According to SCIEX leadership, the system was designed to bridge the gap between ultra-high sensitivity detection and high-confidence quantitation in real-world biological samples.
“The ZenoTOF 8600 System gives researchers the sensitivity and resolution they need to confidently quantify complex biological systems on a single platform,” said a SCIEX product management executive. “By combining enhanced ion optics, improved detection technology, and advanced DIA workflows, we are enabling a new level of discovery across life science research.”
With its combination of enhanced sensitivity, improved robustness, and expanded analytical capabilities, the ZenoTOF 8600 System is positioned to accelerate breakthroughs across a wide range of scientific disciplines, including:
Biomarker discovery and validation
Translational and clinical research
Protein and peptide characterization
Metabolomics and lipidomics profiling
Systems biology and multi-omics integration
By enabling scientists to see deeper into complex biological systems, the platform supports more accurate decision-making in drug development, disease research, and precision medicine applications.
